A Fashionable Night Out for a Good Cause Oct. 19th

It’s October and that means many things, not the least of which is the return of an annual event that for many of our MODE readers (and staff) is a do-not-miss every year – the Ruby Room’s Annual Fashion Faux Pas to Fashion Fabulous fashion show and auction fundraiser.

This event is a highlight of the local charity events calendar each year and a favorite for many of its regular and loyal attendees. That probably has as much to do with it all being for a great cause as it does with it being a freakin fantastic show and all around super fun evening. It is scheduled to take place this again this year at the Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013.

The Fashion Faux Pas to Fashion Fabulous event is the Ruby Room’s one chance to raise enough money to pay their expenses for the following year and fund a scholarship program they founded for aspiring designers. It includes a fashion show featuring emerging and established Seattle fashion designers who use “the uglies” – prom gowns donated to the Ruby Room throughout the year that are deemed unworthy to be given to girls to wear to their school dances – to construct one-of-a-kind cocktail and party dresses that event attendees bid on during the live auction. There is also a silent auction which is always an exciting opportunity to win items such as travel packages, wine, spa services and restaurant gift certificates. Of course there’s always great food and lots of wine flowing at this party too, with passed desserts circulating through the crowd during the main event.

One new addition this year is a chance to bid on a few special dresses designed by MODE’s Executive Fashion Editor and costumer Angelique Ashton during the silent auction portion of the evening, which will be donated back to the Ruby Room to be chosen by a future prom-goer for her school dance. In essence your bid on these dresses is a sponsorship of one girl’s prom dream.

Through partnerships with Washington State high schools, and local social service organizations such as Youthcare, the Starlight Children’s Foundation and Treehouse for Kids, the Ruby Room has given away thousands of dresses over the past 11 years. MODE is excited to be attending the show this year to provide coverage for our readers, as well as support this fabulous organization’s work in the community.
